MASTERs Spring Training Camp Draws International Athletes, Supports High Noon Judo’s Push for Third Straight Senior National Team Title

Fairfax, VA – Martial Arts for Social Transformation, Equity, and Rights (MASTERs) hosted its 2026 Spring Training Camp, bringing together high-level judo athletes from across the United States and Europe for an intensive week of technical development, live training, and competition-focused preparation.

The camp was designed in part to support athletes from High Noon Judo as they prepare for the 2026 USA Judo Senior National Championships, where the team is aiming to secure a third consecutive Senior National team title.

The camp featured a three-day technical clinic led by Sensei Megumi Ishikawa, one of the most respected judo instructors working in the United States today. Ishikawa’s sessions focused on control, timing, and tactical sequencing in both standing judo (tachiwaza) and groundwork (newaza), with an emphasis on decision-making under pressure.

MASTERs captured the full system taught during the clinic and produced a premium instructional, now available for pre-order.

2024 U.S. Olympian John Jayne joined the camp for several days of training, using the environment to sharpen his groundwork against a deep and diverse training pool. His presence reinforced the camp’s role as a destination for athletes operating at the highest levels of the sport.

Participants traveled from across the U.S. and Europe, creating a competitive room that combined emerging prospects with established national-level athletes. The structure prioritized live exchanges, constrained scenarios, and rapid feedback cycles designed to accelerate skill acquisition rather than rely on traditional, low-transfer drilling.

“We are not interested in going through the motions,” said Dr. Christopher Round, Executive Director of MASTERs. “If the goal is to win at the national level and close the gap internationally, the training has to reflect that. This camp is part of that build.”

The Spring Training Camp is part of MASTERs’ broader high-performance pipeline supporting athletes pursuing U.S. national team selection and the 2028 Olympic cycle. The program integrates technical development, competition strategy, and athlete support, and has contributed to High Noon Judo’s emergence as one of the top-performing clubs in the United States.
